For those of you looking to escape the noise, and bustle of the city without planning an extensive camping trip there are some amazing options that are within a 25 minute drive from Downtown Denver.  Jefferson County is the county just west of Denver and runs in a long rectangle along the western part of Denver and into the foothills. For more information be sure to visit http://jeffco.us/openspace/

My favorite trail for hiking is the Apex Park trail that starts at the Heritage Square parking lot.  It's a bit gnarly and rocky for mountainbiking especially the first mile but within a few minutes you are rewarded with views of Denver as the traffic noise melts away.  Be sure to allow time for a romp through the enchanted forest.

Another trail that's great for a quick break from city living is Lair O' the Bear.  Although it's more than 25 minutes from Denver it's just a few extra minutes up Morrison road.  The park is filled with aspen trees and rolling trails, not just the typical straight up and straight back down.  The park is very family friendly with picnic tables and running water where you can often see fish.

Get out and remember why you live in Colorado!
