New Bike Path Connects Boulder And Denver
While Colorado is home to some hard-core cyclists, the new pathway is more about mobility and accessibility than catering to riders who would use it to commute.
Boulder Mayor Matt Appelbaum said he doesn’t think people will necessarily be commuting from downtown Denver to downtown Boulder, but the new path allows use for commuting and recreation along segments of the corridor, and it allows access by bike to the park-and-rides.
The total cost of the bikeway is $16.6 million out of a total cost of $427 million for the corridor improvement.
The U.S. 36 Express Lanes Project is adding dedicated lanes in each direction of bus-rapid-transit, high-occupancy vehicles and toll-paying single-occupancy vehicles, as well as reconstructing the general purpose lanes, widening the highway and replacing or widening seven bridges over U.S. 36.
The bikeway is being constructed alongside the road portions of the project. Phase I of the project, which runs from Federal Boulevard to 88th Street in Louisville and Superior, is 75 percent complete. Phase II, which runs from 88th to Table Mesa, is about 10 percent complete, with portions of the bikeway finished between Cherryvale Road and Marshall Road.
