If you’re headed to Colorado with family in tow or goals of starting one, Apartment List thinks Castle Rock and Loveland are two of the best places to do it.

According to the Apartment List study, published last week, Loveland came in at the #90 spot, while Castle Rock ranked an impressive #4.

Castle Rock families love their city and frequently talk about how it combines the best of two worlds, said Apartment List in its ranking.

Apartment List is a San Francisco-based website that lists properties for lease, ranked 500 cities in the U.S. based on four factors important to families:

  • Safety:  They ranked cities by the number of violent crimes and property crimes per 100,000 residents.

  • Housing cost:  To rank cities on housing cost, Apartment List calculated the percentage of the average income required to rent the average two bedroom apartment.

  • School quality:  Cities were ranked on high school graduation rate for public school districts based in that city. Comparing schools across different states can be challenging, but high school graduation rate gives a good estimate of overall school quality.

  • Child friendliness:  Communities with a greater percentage of children tend to be more child friendly, so they scored cities based on the percentage of the population who is under 18.

The study noted that Castle Rock has a safe, small town feel with plenty of young families. Also a factor in the ranking is the fact that there are plenty of great jobs just 15 minutes away at the Denver Tech Center, and downtown Denver is a 45 minute drive to the north.
