Two of Denver’s suburbs made the "Best Places to live in America" list, compiled by Money magazine and Realtor.com. Highlands Ranch came in at #8, while Broomfield took the #18 spot.

According to Money magazine, this year's rankings looked at communities with at least 50,000 residents and eliminated places that had the following: more than double the national crime risk, less than 85 percent of its state's median household income and a lack of ethnic diversity. A total of 583 cities were considered and the list was whittled down to 50 cities total.

The rankings focused on a place's economic health, cost of living, diversity, public education, income, crime, ease of living and amenities, assigning the greatest weight to economic health, public school performance and local amenities. Reporters from Money also visited each spot to interview residents and check out neighborhoods.

Money's editor-in-chief, Adam Auriemma, said their methodology took into account over 135,000 data points and was designed to uncover spots that offer a winning mix of affordability, charm, and economic strength.

Highlands Ranch details:

  • Median family income: $126,404

  • Median home price: $480,000

  • Projected job growth from 2017-22: 7.4%

  • Average commute: 26 minutes

  • High school graduation rate: 90%

  • Clear days per year: 245

And Broomfield:

  • Median family income: $105,598

  • Median home price: $415,000

  • Projected job growth from 2017-22: 9.89%

  • Average commute: 26 minutes

  • High school graduation rate: 82.1 %
