A restaurant co-created by Justin Timberlake and backed locally by Ryan Tedder, the front man for the Colorado-band One Republic, is slated to to open in Lower Downtown.

The Southern Hospitality Franchisee Holding Corporation said last Wednesday it plans to open a Southern Hospitality BBQ location in the historic St. Elmo Hotel at 1433 17th Street in mid-October. Renovations will begin this month.

The Memphis-style barbecue restaurant was co-created by Timberlake and will specialize in comfort food and barbecue. The restaurant currently operates in two New York locations.

Colorado-born Tedder, who is part-owner of Southern Franchisee Holding Corp, said the St. Elmo Hotel is a "perfect location for Southern Hospitality BBQ."

"I'm looking forward to seeing Southern Hospitality make its way West — and I'm happy there will finally be a location in Denver, my own backyard," he said.

The original restaurant, which opened in 2007 on Manhattan's Upper East Side, as well as its 2011 Hell's Kitchen successor are both models for the 30-store franchise roll-out agenda.

This will be a welcome addition to the southern food scene in Denver, which is relative small, but consists of real winners such as Yelp favorite, CoraFaye’s Café and Catering. CoraFaye’s features the ultimate in home cooking and soul food. Featuring entrees of fried chicken to fried catfish, BBQ Briskets and country style ribs to oxtails and neck bones, CoraFaye’s consistently gets high marks from the locals. Sides include black eyed peas, greens, mac and cheese, cabbage, yams, corn bread and the like.

The highly-rated spot also has homemade cakes and pies, including cream cheese cakes, caramel, red velvet, pound cakes and chocolate layered cakes. And don’t forget the sweet potato pies, banana puddings and peach cobblers. For dinner and entertainment, CoraFaye’s also offers cozy dinner shows featuring Jazz, R&B, Gospel and Country Western.
