Once literally named the least desirable neighborhood in Denver, the area of Barnum is certainly creating a name and positive image for itself now. Hailed as one of the few last affordable areas in Denver, Barnum actually has quite a bit to offer. And while currently, it’s a bit less pricey than other up and coming neighborhoods like Sunnyside and Cole, it certainly won’t stay that way.

The neighborhood’s name comes from its former landowner, circus tycoon P.T. Barnum, who had high hopes for the area. Established as a neighborhood in 1878, Barnum became a neighborhood of working-class families in somewhat ordinary small homes. For years, it languished in depression, with the majority of its homes in disrepair and very little value placed on the area. However, Barnum’s proximity and view of the city has led to an influx of investors and hopeful home buyers, especially first-timers.

Barnum’s revitalization has landed the neighborhood on several national up-and-coming lists. In fact, in 2018 neighborhood ranking site, Niche, included Barnum on the Most Diverse Areas in Denver list and the Best Neighborhood for Millennials in Denver list.

Barnum is bordered on the north by Sixth Avenue, on the east by Federal Boulevard, on the south by Alameda Avenue, and on the west by Perry Street. And with amazing views of the city from Barnum Park and plenty of restaurant options along Federal Boulevard, it’s no wonder this neighborhood is a top choice for those looking to buy a 1950s-era single-family home close to downtown.

Inventory numbers here remain on the low side, however, there are still some great deals to be found in Barnum. Ready to check out this exciting area of Denver? Give Metrowest a shout today – we’d love to show you around!
